Not the best nor worst month. I am a little hopeful towards Nemurenu Hitsuji to Kodoku no Ookami, while the rest I will be delighted should they manage to be amusing if rather mediocre. Still, whatever happened to tons of Christmas related games during December? Not that I ever played them mind you, but it just doesn’t feel the same without them.

Sangokuhime 5 ~Hishou Kourin Senkou no Toushin~

This is the latest title in Gesen18’s Sangokuhime series, featuring the same cast as Sangokuhime 4. The eight main heroines this time are Sousou, Sonsaku, Sonken, Ryuubi, Shokatsuryou, Toutaku, Ryofu and Choukaku. Each route starts from a different time period, not necessarily from the Yellow Turban Rebellion. There’s a new ‘general legend mode’ which adds extra stories for all the generals/heroines. As usual, there’s a long list of artists working on this game, and my favourite is the amaenbou Sonken, imouto of Sonsaku from the Go faction.

Now I could have sworn there were way more than five of these. Not that I pay much attention, however it sure feels like it has been closer to twenty five rather than a paltry five. Either way same issue as all past games, too many heroines. So either you like these games and already know by now, or don’t and likewise already know this.

Pure Marriage ~Akai Ito Monogatari Sakura-hen~

This is the third and final title in Lass Pixy’s low-priced Pure Marriage trilogy, focusing on Sakura. Since a few years ago, Touma’s imouto Sakura had become extremely cold to him, treating him almost like a stranger. However, her true feelings became clear when he was to choose either Madoka or Celica as his bride. Realizing his own feelings, Touma chose Sakura as his bride, to her great excitement. With the help of Rudman, they were able to live openly as a couple while being siblings and students. It was the beginning of a married life with a tsuntsun yet doting imouto. One day, Sakura suddenly said that she wanted a baby… not in the future, but right now!

Alright, let’s do it! I’m ready!

It’s no secret that intimate relationships happen in reality TV programs. This is merely an eroge representation of it. I’ll tune in every week for Miho-chan.

I suppose I will give them credit for being honest. Suite Life is exactly what the majority of eroge are these days. The only difference is that everyone else tries to hide behind some gimmick instead of admitting it.

Koneko Neko Neko

Haruta came to an old village where you couldn’t walk anywhere without seeing a cat. Due to a stroke of bad luck, he couldn’t stay at the apartment that he had reserved, but fortunately he was able to find a place to live in a small house called Nekohana-kan. The rent was free, but he had to agree to take care of the kittens.

However, instead of cats there were three nekomimi girls waiting for him. As their master, he must support them so that they can live in the human world: that is, he must choose one of them to marry. Moreover, he had lost all his memories before that day.

Make sure you read your rental agreements carefully or else you’ll be paying for it for the rest of your life! That being said, the nekomimi heroines are cute, so I wouldn’t mind having them around. There isn’t much more to the game than what’s on the cover, although I’m quite puzzled by the catchphrase: “A cat has nine lives. For three he plays, for three he strays, and for the last three he stays”.

Another one of those games where the situation compels girls to fall into the lap of our “Unlucky” protagonist. Cat ears included free of charge this time. Basically just a gimmick for cat girls.

I don’t think there’s been a catgirl game in a while. We’re overdue.

Nekopara 4, wherefore art thou?

Zutto Mae Kara Joshi Deshita

Haruya’s family runs a group of ryokan and he grew surrounded by women, led by his pushy sisters. He never truly got over his uneasiness around girls, so he had only attended boys’ schools until now. While he was more comfortable around his guy friends, he was at the age where he started to show interest in the opposite sex. He wondered if he could find a girl who was cute and not scary.

Returning to his hometown after ten years, he transferred to a co-ed school for the first time. He was excited to meet new people, but unexpectedly he was reacquainted with an old friend with whom he often played as kids.

“Eh… You weren’t a boy!?”

Haruya had always thought that Sena was a boy, so he was undoubtedly surprised when he discovered the truth. She had a totally different feel around her, and she had grown to become very beautiful….

It’s just a low-priced game where you can get to know your childhood friend quite well. Sena has a complex about her large breasts. Yes, oppai complex is a real thing.

Feng hasn’t done a full scale game in quite awhile. I suppose this format works better for them anyway as misses aren’t as big of a deal, while hits are even better. This time is nothing special, and thanks to that may not be too bad. Better to keep things simple and enjoyable than ruin everything attempting a gimmick.

That said, their cover art annoys me. Slapping an HCG right there on the front doesn’t say anything good about a game. Can only hope it is bait, and not telling how the story goes.

Natural Vacation

Kairi stepped out of the air-conditioned bus and had to squint his eyes from the blinding sunlight and summer heat. When he slowly opened his eyes, he saw the sparkling azure ocean in front of him, with the clouds adding pockets of white to the sea of blue, and he smelled the faint scent of the ocean brought in by the gentle breeze. He moved here from the city to live with his grandfather after his parents went abroad for work. The kind townspeople welcomed him to their town, including two girls Haruka and Yuzuki.

Would you like to spend a wonderful summer break together with them in this town?

So bright and pretty! I would definitely jump at the chance to spend some carefree summer days with cute girls. The ‘lovely call’ and E-mote systems are back from the CATION series, and there will be append discs with after stories (including H scenes of course). I love summer!

Wait, isn’t it December?

Standing opposite of Feng for this month is Hibiki Works. Nothing wrong with their stories or characters. The problem instead lies with the lovely call and E-mote clutter. Frankly the system gimmicks they rely on serve no real purpose as they do little to enhance the stories, rather they detract from it. Just a pointless and unneeded hassle to deal with. If such things properly added to their games I would be fine with it, however that is not the case. I wouldn’t even mind if it was possible to completely turn it all off so you only had to deal with that mediocre silliness if you wanted to. As they survive on their characters and to a lesser extent the stories I would much prefer a streamlined approach.

This is the fandisc for Real Eroge Situation. Shinobu was confessed to by Ayame, Kanna and Yuri, then was subject to their non-stop sexual advances. He had planned to choose one of them before the school festival, but he was ultimately unable to do so.

“Ehehe, it’s been a while, onii-chan♪”

One day, his childhood friend Ui returned after moving away when they were still kids. Her parents were originally supposed to accompany her, but they had urgent matters to attend to. Nazuna suggested that Ui stay at Shinobu’s home in the meantime.

“I’m being serious. I’ve always always loved you, onii-chan.
So… have sex with me♪”

She was extremely direct with her feelings for him which had built up over the years they’ve been apart. This was the trigger for the other girls to make even more extreme sexual advances towards him! Surrounded by four girls who are infatuated with him, this is truly a harem situation!

The main route is an if story that includes all three main heroines plus new heroine Ui. There’s also routes for sub-heroines Miru/Nazuna and Ren/Kasane. The triple H stands for Hard, H (ecchi) and Hentai. It’s the perfect name for a fandisc where you can basically do it with everyone, don’t you think? They also did the obvious thing and added an ‘imouto’. You know how this industry works, Jitaku Studio!

Lost Echoes

This is the first game by petit linge. Riku was taking photos at the street corner when he met the self-proclaimed minor goddess Umi. He didn’t know if it was a fated meeting or simply planned, but she asked him to go to the past and change one particular event that happened back then. His assistance was needed since he contained the soul of one of the people involved in that event.

If he didn’t help her, what would happen? His surroundings and everything he took for granted will surely change, and misfortune will befall his childhood friend Yuika. This is because in Yuika’s past life as Chiyo, she killed her dear friend and her lamentation had persisted over the next 430 years, gradually eating away at her soul. The only way to save her was to avoid the incident that caused her regret, but this was the last chance to do so.

So that means there’s pretty much one true route (for Yuika). This is the first story written by Sakuragi Tomoe, so I’m not sure how well it’ll end up considering these kinds of plots can get quite messy. It has the feel of an older game; maybe this is because of the art (or the amateurish website). Matsuda Risa has been getting fewer roles lately, so it’s nice to see her voice Hinao.

Setup does not leave my hopeful towards the story here. Would have been more meaningful if the past was slowly revealed in memory fragments to help guide your choices that would then change the present. In other words simple memories the protagonist slowly recalls instead of the whole go back to the past to change the future. All the while imparting a sense of meaning to the player and their decisions. Coming to terms and preventing things from repeating in a historical loop through the cycle of reincarnation would have been a better way of doing essentially the same thing without the need for deus ex goddess.

Kin-iro Loveriche

Noble Private Academy: it is where the ladies and gentlemen of the future are raised. At this boarding school, students not only learn basic education, but are also taught how to be dignified. This year is especially unique since royalty from the small Scandinavian country of Sortilège was invited to the school. Ouro caught the eye of the princess Sylvia after a certain incident, which led to him being beaten up at the school and ultimately placed into a vacant room in the girls’ dormitory.

The story is written this time by Sakaki Kasa, who mostly worked on CandySoft’s Tsuyokiss series, as well as Minato Carnival’s Tsujidou and Recette’s Shugaten. To be honest, I didn’t really have an interest in this chara-ge at first glance even with the stellar seiyuu cast, probably because the princess and knight element or the one-note hair colour. I guess Zen will have to call them by their eye colour instead. Playing the trial did make me a bit more interested, but mainly in the pure Sylvia and playful Reina. I guess it’s worth giving it a shot.

Ugh, eye color games drive me nuts. Now anyone who talks to me for awhile knows I am awful at names. This becomes even worse when something like eroge comes into play as eventually it all blurs together. Which leads to characters being classified by character archetype and hair color. What makes this even worse is that two of the four blondes have fairly close eye colors, dark pink and red. So one can only hope green, blue, pink, and red are more distinctive than their hair.

Rest of the game is generic charage, we all know what these are about by now so no more commentary on the story or game is really needed here.

Hikari no Umi no Apeiria ~Casablanca no Kishi~

This is the fandisc for Hikari no Umi no Apeiria. Reiichi’s friend disappeared. After consulting with Sara and Nanami, he found out about the existence of an app called the Boundary II α system. He logged in once more to Second to solve the mystery of his friend’s log-in for over a month. This was the beginning of a new incident. He must find a way to log-out of the α system in which he was trapped, but he had forgotten everything about Apeiria….

Never really had much interest in this game. It’s too odd of a mix of immaturity and infodumping for my liking.

Tsuki ni Yorisou Otome no Sahou 2.2 AxL+SA!!

Bakumatsu Jinchuu Houkoku Resshiden MIBURO

The time was Bakumatsu, the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate. Legend has it that when the nation’s security is threatened, a mysterious power that has long existed will appear within a certain individual. The one With this power can read the weakness of their enemies and cut them down with a single stroke. These weaknesses manifest as small light orbs and sometimes appear like roaring flames.

A decade since the invasion of Commodore Perry’s black ships, Japan was on the brink of an unprecedented danger. The political capital had been moved from Edo to Kyoto, in which lies a lawless area called Tenchu. A group called the Mibu Roningumi (nicknamed Miburo, and later known as the Shinsengumi) keeps the peace in this area. They were the ones who saved the protagonist Mita Ken.

There are four main routes with over 70 characters with sprites and around 120 CGs. You don’t need to have played ChuSinGura46+1, but it might help understand the setting. I know quite a few people are looking forward to it since Inre did a good job with the storytelling for their debut title. I’m not well-versed with Japanese history nor have an interest in swords (as mentioned prior), so I’ll have to give it a pass.

Koihime syndrome. Too many characters to keep up with them all. Nothing I hate more in this type of game than liking the side characters more than the main heroines on offer. If they scaled it down a bit I feel it would make for a better read.

Nemurenu Hitsuji to Kodoku na Ookami

Takeo lives at a love hotel in Shinjuku’s Kabukicho, working as a janitor and cleaning after the guests leave. He is quite tired and listless during the day since he suffers from chronic insomnia. The only way he can fall sound asleep is by killing someone. Thus, he works behind the scenes as an assassin for the head of the ruling gang in order to get a good night’s sleep. Even though it’s an extremely risky business, the days were relatively stable and peaceful.

One day, Takeo met the call girl Azami. When he embraced her, he had the best sleep that he’d ever had, so he thought about keeping her by his side. However, she was being chased by his boss, which meant that keeping her would amount to turning against him and an end to his peaceful life.

Many people have high expectations for this game since it’s in the same vein as Maggot baits. I’m not one of them. I appreciate the writing and atmosphere that they’ve created, but it’s just not for me.

I like the setting. A nice change of pace alone makes this worth at least checking out for me. However while I can pass of being a janitor while still being an assassin to a proper cover, the whole insomnia thing is a bit flimsy and convenient. I don’t really mind the killing to sleep, that is whatever it can work. Azami is just too convenient however. I would have liked to have a better connection between the two of them as well as reason for protecting her.

Anyway, irritating plot issues aside I hope this is written well. Words cannot express how sick of high school settings I am. So anything that not only gets away from the standard, but does so well is ok in my book.

Well, you’re right that it’s not a school setting at least.

And that is all that matters.

Koi ni, Kanmi o Soete

This is the debut work for doujin circle CANVAS+GARDEN, featuring their mascot characters. It was spring break, a season filled with both expectation and hesitation for those who are beginning a new school year. Asaki moved to the quaint town of Hanaousaka, staying at his grandmother’s place, which is also a café. However, the café was temporarily closed since he grandmother had been hospitalized due to an illness. When he was informed of this by his childhood friend Chisato, who he considered as his older sister, he looked around the desolate café and decided to make it lively once more.

He gave the shop a new name, Café Calmera, and renovated the interior to brighten it up. After preparing a new menu and arranging for new uniforms, he began to look for part-time staff. Two girls, Rira and Rishie, immediately came to the café.

“Umm… Would it be OK if we worked here?”

A gust of wind sent a cloud of cherry blossom petals into the shop, enveloping Akari and the two girls. It was a sign of the beginning of a bittersweet tale…

I love the art by Miyasaka Miyu and Miyasaka Naco. I love café settings. I can get more of Ciel-chan. This is a Christmas wish come true. Hau~ omochikaeri~!

When I first laid eyes upon this title, I could not help but think “This is a Micchi game”. And so it was. So let us leave it at that. Nothing else needs saying.
